Fixed Colors or Color-Changing Neon: Which Do You Need?

Choose a fixed color if you want the same look each time. Choose color-changing lights if you want to switch the mood. You do not need the paid color-changing option for a sign to glow.

LED neon uses small lights inside a flexible strip. The strip sits on a backing panel to hold the shape of your words or logo.

What do the color choices mean?

Light options in the Miami Neons designer
Option What it does When to choose it
One fixed color The sign keeps the selected color. A name, phrase or logo with one steady look.
Several fixed colors Different parts of a logo use set colors. A logo with two or more colors that stay in place. The artwork needs its own price.
Color fade, also called RGB The light can change colors with a controller. You want different colors for different moods.
Chasing colors Colors can move along the light strip. You want moving color effects. Check the chosen effect before ordering.

RGB stands for red, green and blue. These light colors mix to make other colors. A controller is the small device that manages the color changes.

Does a two-color logo need RGB?

No. Two fixed colors and color-changing lights are different choices. The 48-inch indoor Platino sign shows white letters and a blue diamond. The 36-inch indoor Cool Jewels sign shows yellow words and white initials. These photos show the color layout. A still photo cannot show whether the lights change color.

What does color-changing light cost?

It is a paid option. The amount depends on the size and setup. In our October 26, 2026 designer check, a 24-inch HELLO text sign cost US$199 in fixed hot pink. The same indoor design with Color fade cost US$299.

We used the Barcelony font, one line, clear cut-to-shape backing, wall mounting and standard production. Tax, destination fees and rush service were excluded. These are price checks in our designer, not a physical test. Check the current price for your own design.

Is a remote included?

The Color fade option in our designer lists its controller and remote as included. A remote for a fixed-color sign can be a separate paid option. Read the selected setup before you order rather than assuming every sign comes with the same controls.

Which should I choose?

  • Keep the price lower: start with one fixed color and standard production.
  • Keep your brand colors in place: use a fixed-color logo layout.
  • Change the room's color: consider Color fade.
  • Use moving effects: consider Chasing colors.

We have not measured brightness or power use for this guide. Color choice alone does not tell you those figures. Ask about your exact sign if you need a specific light level or power limit.
